The Three Elements to Nudge Change Management

The Three Elements to Nudge Change Management

Nudge Change Management

Nudge Change Management is the art of facilitating organizational change by using behavioral nudges to guide employees in leading the change effort.

1. Not Economic Incentivized

Try to take money off the table. Money can sway decisions that are not in the person’s best interest. This removes the choice empowerment of the person and your desired change won’t have the long term change enablement effect that is desired.

2. Human-Centered

Put the person first and try to make their lives better. The understanding of people’s needs helps the choice architect create choices that help people meet their needs.

3. Voluntary

Try following the model of Nudge Theory’s creator Richard Thaler of Libertarian Paternalism. As a change agent, there is a need to keep all options on the table and provide data to help the team make the best decision. True nudges cannot be coercive and must empower the team to make those choices of free will.
