In recent years, the rise of micro training has become a popular method. Individuals seeking to improve their skills and knowledge on many topics. Micro training, as its name suggests, involves learning in small, manageable chunks. Designed to be easily digestible and applied in real-world situations. While this approach to learning has many benefits, one critical aspect of it that is often overlooked is the role of feedback and assessment.

Feedback and assessment are essential components of micro learning as they provide learners with valuable insights into their progress, areas of strength, and areas for improvement. These insights are crucial for learners to understand their progress, to be able to adjust their learning strategies accordingly, and to maintain motivation and engagement in their learning journey.

In this article, I will discuss the importance of feedback and assessment in micro learning and how they can be effectively integrated into the learning process to enhance learner outcomes.

Essential Assessment

First and foremost, feedback and assessment are essential for learners to monitor their progress and understand how they are performing in their learning journey. This is particularly important in micro learning, where the learning goals are often very specific and narrow in scope. By providing learners with regular feedback and assessments, they can gain a clear understanding of how they are progressing towards their goals and identify areas where they need to improve.

For example, imagine a learner who is studying a new programming language through a series of short online courses. Without regular feedback and assessments, the learner may not know if they are truly grasping the material or if they need to adjust their learning strategy. However, if the courses include regular quizzes, assignments, or assessments, the learner can gauge their understanding of the material and make necessary adjustments to their learning approach.
